Around 40 patients per year will have surgery for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) at St. Bartholomew’s hospital. The majority of patients will undergo septal myectomy, but in addition we also perform mitral valve and atrial fibrillation surgery.

All patients are under the care of a specialist cardiology consultant, receive extensive work-up for surgery and are discussed at an MDT meeting to provide the best options for treatment.

We also provide specialist intra and perioperative echocardiography for HOCM and have a well established post surgical care pathway for cardiac critical care and ongoing rehabilitation on the ward.
